Making sure that the Geek Out gets appropriate amount of power from USB

I am concerned about my Geek Out 1000 getting either too little or too much power, so I would appreciate advice on the following:

    * Since USB ports are not always exactly up to standard, is there any way to determine whether my Geek Out is getting the appropriate amount of power?

    * Can I use a Y-cable to connect the Geek Out to two USB ports for extra power (one port just for power, not data)? Or can this possibly overload the device?

A USB port in theory should be able to power your Geek Out 1000. It is more likely the Geek Out is been under powered rather than over-powered.

If you are concerned, you can get yourself a USB Y cable ( one leg for power, one leg for data) and use a seperate USB power supply.
